Overview
Based in the Seijo area of Tokyo, Japan, Seijo University is a private education institution well known for their focus in arts and social sciences. Founded in 1950, it holds over 6000 students and 550 lecturers across 31 undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Challenge
Seijo University's Network supports students, staff, and lecturers (almost 7000 people in total). Their virtualization platform is VMware-based, with three vCenters and 12 ESXi hosts, including a testing environment.
Kaz Igarashi is the Media Network Center Manager at Seijo University as well as the VMUG (VMware User Group) Leader for Japan. With his busy schedule, he was looking for a solution that would allow him to tackle issue recognition more efficiently and smartly. Specifically, he wanted to be able to proactively identify and remediate latent issues or non-compliances in the VMware environment before they caused problems requiring emergency troubleshooting which could impact his VMUG activities.
Solution
After seeing Runecast Analyzer at vFORUM Japan 2017, Kaz recognized this was the solution he was looking for. Within just a few hours he had the appliance deployed and completely familiarized himself with the product documentation.
When asked what he enjoyed most about Runecast Analyzer, Kaz stated that Analyzer was easy to deploy, with a comprehensive and intuitive user interface. Also, that it doesn't just use VMware's Knowledge Base, but also [verified] community posts and resources.
Results
Last year, Runecast Analyzer detected and prevented ten critical issues in Seijo University's infrastructure and now saves almost 80% on time previously required for troubleshooting. The costly process of manually analyzing the VMware set-up and physically cross-examining it with VMWare's Knowledge Base has been replaced with proactive automated problem prevention.
Now, knowing that he can rely on Runecast for issue identification and risk mitigation, Kaz can organize and attend his VMUG events with the peace of mind that no unexpected issue or emergency troubleshooting will interrupt his day.
