Runecast Analyzer 1.6 is here! Integrations and Security!

vSphere Web client plugin - love it or hate it, the vSphere Web Client is here to stay. It now comes in HTML5 version and will only keep improving. The Web Client is still the main point of control for any VMware administrator. That's where admins can see and operate with all their hosts, virtual machines and other inventory objects. It is also a great place where they should be able to also see potential risks or incompliances. Although admins can always open the Runecast Analyzer interface to explore those, we have now developed a convenient way to bring this valuable info to the vSphere Web Client.

We give you the Runecast Web Client plug-in. Once deployed and registered with your Runecast Analyzer instance, it will seamlessly integrate with the Web Client interface and provide details of potential problems directly in the Web interface all vSphere admins love (or hate) to use. STIG Security Compliance. Security has always been a big topic but never bigger than now. More and more organizations are required to follow strict security standards and the vSphere environment is a critical layer of IT that needs to comply. Although Runecast Analyzer provides automatic security health check based on the vSphere Security Hardening Guides, there are specific security strandards out there that deviate in a certain extent from the guidelines provided by VMware. One of those important security standards is DISA STIG (Defense Information Systems Agency - Security Technical Implementation Guide). We have spoken to various organizations who spend days compliance checking against STIG, completely manually. However almost all STIG checks can be automated and yes - we did it. You can now enable the STIG DISA compliance checks enabled, along with the standard vSphere Security Hardening guides. Look out for some more popular security standards coming very soon. (Did anyone mention PCI-DSS?)

Last but not least, the REST API. Though we introduced the REST API few releases back, we have enriched it now and you can do pretty much everything with Runecast programatically through the REST API. You now have all the freedom to integrate Runecast Analyzer with the rest of your system management tools. I encourage you to explore and test all REST API endpoints in your Runecast Analyzer interface (under Settings -> REST API).
