Life at Runecast
In this article:

They say that time flies when you’re having fun, and we’re having so much fun that our five-year anniversary in Q4 2019 was less about partying and more about innovating!

Five years ago, a group of ex-IBM employees had a vision to build something great, to solve real data center needs in an automated, proactive way. Here’s a brief timeline of what we’ve done since.

2014 – Idea born to use the collective human-readable VMware knowledge available, automate it with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and use that to proactively troubleshoot and analyze potential issues before they become problems to mission-critical environments.

2015 – Runecast Analyzer 1.0 released and rolled out at VMworld San Francisco. Runecast wins an Editor’s Choice Award from Virtualization Review.

2016 – Runecast lands big customers like Verizon Wireless in the USA, DLR in Germany, and enters the Japanese market with a Fujisoft partnership. Runecast receives 1.6M EUR in Seed funding from leading Central European investors Credo Ventures (Prague) and Limerock Fund Manager (Bratislava).

2017 – Highly scalable Runecast Analyzer 1.5 released, supporting multiple vCenters; Security Compliance focus added to Runecast Analyzer with DISA STIG automation. Runecast wins a Tech Trailblazer Award and is a Finalist for a CRN Tech Innovators Award. And customer feedback is what helps us grow most.

2018 Runecast Analyzer 2.0 launches, with a new dashboard & features that include historical trending analysis and automated PCI DSS and HIPAA security checks; now integrates with vSAN, NSX, and Horizon. Computing magazine names Runecast a UK IT Industry Awards Finalist. We also came up with an exclusive game for VMware admins, to help them memorize the most dangerous issues, which may cause a PSOD if they're not solved at the right time.

2019Runecast Analyzer 3.0 launches with ESXi upgrade simulation against HCL, plus auto-remediation workflows. IDG Connect names Runecast one of “20 Red-Hot, Pre-IPO Companies to Watch in the 2019 B2B Tech” space. Runecast wins €1.9M EU Horizon 2020 grant to accelerate the development of its AI, called Runecast AI Knowledge Automation (RAIKA). As well, Runecast receives great recognition with a “VMworld Finalist Award” from TechTarget and earns additional finalist rankings for:

Computing magazine Technology Product Awards:

  • Best Virtualisation Product
  • Technology Innovator of the Year

Computing magazine Security Excellence Award:

  • Security Automation

SDC Award:

  • Digital Transformation Company of the Year

And we can't forget the biggest milestone for us which happened in the last month of the year - Runecast Analyzer 4.0 supporting VMware + AWS hybrid cloud! For admins migrating into known complexity, facing unknown complications, Runecast Analyzer is a friend on that journey, bringing attention to the issues that matter most to mission-critical IT operations.

BIG THANK YOU TO ALL RUNECAST CUSTOMERS AND PARTNERS!!! We could not have done it without you.

And in case you’re wondering… we’ve got big plans for the next five years, too! ;-)
